FAMB Youth Skills Clinics

Flathead Area Mountain Bikers provides monthly Youth Mountain Bike Skills Clinics, open to kids aged 8-16 of all skill levels. Our Youth Clinics are designed to be fun group rides that focus on skill development, safety, and responsible trail use. Professional instruction is provided by the wonderful certified instructors at Beyond the Boundaries.

We meet at various locations (specified below) at 10am and ride trails for three hours, focusing on mountain biking technique and proper trail etiquette. We split up into groups of different skill and age levels as participation necessitates. No prior mountain biking experience is necessary, so come join us for some fun on the trail!

*Participants need to be members of FAMB. Get the whole family involved with a family membership for $80, or individual for $30. Join online before you try registering for a clinic.

2020 Youth Clinic Dates

We're happy to announce that we've decided to host a limited number of free youth mountain bike skills clinics this summer! Once these clinics are done, we'll be evaluating the COVID-19 situation and checking back in with our instructors to gauge their comfort level and availability for the latter half of the summer. We'll be practicing social distancing at all clinics. FAMB membership is required for participation in FAMB clinics, and this season we are requiring FAMB membership prior to clinic registration. This will limit person-to-person contact at check-in.

Youth Clinic Scholarship Program
Since 2015, FAMB has provided a scholarship program to help give kids without bikes the opportunity to join our Youth Clinic program. Scholarship recipients are provided with transportation to and from the trailhead (from central locations in both Columbia Falls and Whitefish), a free FAMB membership, six free mountain bike skills clinics, and the use of a brand new mountain bike, helmet, water bottle and bottle cage. After completion of at least 4 of the 6 Kids Clinics, a trail stewardship project, and an essay, scholarship students take their brand new bikes home with them at the end of the season. We can't think of a better way to introduce local youth to a healthy, confidence-building outdoor activity like mountain biking. We work with local school counselors to identify youth aged 8-16 who would benefit most from this program.

For more information or to help sponsor youth for the scholarship program, please contact Becky, our Executive Director.
